ACMC welcomes Geriatric Specialist Catherine Bishop, DO

Ashtabula County Medical Center is pleased to welcome Geriatric Specialist Catherine Bishop, DO. She is a family physician, and will see patients in the Jefferson Family Health Center. Dr. Bishop will also provide medical care to patients in local long-term care facilities alongside Dr. Abdul Shahed, ACMC’s Long-Term Care Physician.

She is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Bishop is a member of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians, and is a past-president of that group. She is also a member of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians.

A resident of Ashtabula County, Dr. Bishop earned her medical degree at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internship at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, WV; and her residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

Prior to coming to ACMC, Dr. Bishop served as medical director and lead physician for several long-term care facilities in Chillicothe.

A former teacher, Dr. Bishop said she enjoys taking part in community discussions about healthcare and other issues important to small-town life.

“I am glad to be in Ashtabula County. The census will tell you that we are an aging population.  You only have to look around to see that our medical needs – no matter what age – are rising. I am proud to be at ACMC, which offers us high quality practitioners and state-of-the-art equipment right here in our rural county. I don’t think people realized how blessed we are to have this caliber of medical care right here at home,” Bishop said.
