Ashtabula County Medical Center and Premiere Fitness are offering a variety of wellness and fitness programs to start 2012 in a healthy way.
There is still time to become a part of Health for Life classes, which run through May. The next class is Feb. 1, and sessions meet at noon and 6 p.m. in the ACMC Solarium (fifth floor).
The series of classes combines wellness education with exercise classes to help motivate you to lose weight, shape up, or meet whatever health goals you have.
Wellness education classes are led by ACMC professional staff and physicians. The $20 entry fee also includes:
- 1 Free Premiere Fitness class each week for six weeks.
- 3 Free YMCA of Ashtabula passes to use for any class.
- Passes at Jefferson Community Recreation Center.
- Half off the joiner’s fee at the YMCA of Ashtabula if you become a member.
- Cooking tips
- Nutrition education
- Prizes for participation and healthy weight loss.
A $500 prize will be awarded to the male and female who lose the most percentage of weight (as determined by regular weigh-ins at ACMC, Premiere Fitness or YMCA). There are also other prizes to be given away, including four $50 cash prizes, a night’s stay at the Lodge at Geneva State Park, and memberships to Premiere Fitness and the YMCA.
For those who want to focus on one type of training, Premiere Fitness is offering specialized workshops in January and February.
Pre-registration is required for all classes.
Starting on January 31, Premiere Fitness will offer an eight-part Circuit Training Workshop.
The workshop will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m., and will run from January 31 to February 23.
Each session will include a mixture of strength training for muscular and cardiovascular endurance, high-intensity aerobic training, and flexibility improvement. All major muscle groups will be worked out during this intense 60-minute interval training session.
The cost is $75. Premiere Fitness members pay $59.
A third workshop will combine exercise with personal safety – the Self-Defense Workshop.
This four-part series of classes will be Saturdays at 11 a.m., from February 4 to February 25.
The sessions are designed to help men and women learn proper techniques for striking someone. The program is a mixture of boxing, kickboxing, cardiovascular improvement and muscular endurance. It is specifically designed to empower people through physical and mental strengthening. Build self-confidence, while improving your fitness level and physical skills.
The cost is $65 for non-members, for Premiere Fitness members the cost is $49.
