Walk-in injury clinic returns for second year

For a second year, Ashtabula County Medical Center’s Sports Medicine center will offer walk-in injury clinics every Saturday during high school football season. No appointment is necessary. The injury clinics are designed for common sports-related or everyday life injuries such as:

  • Joint swelling
  • Inability to put weight on injured area
  • Loss of range of motion due to injury
  • Continual pain

ACMC physician Nathaniel Franley, MD, who is fellowship-trained in sports medicine, will see patients Saturdays from 8 to 10:30 a.m. from August 27 to October 29. The weekly injury clinics have a sports focus, but are open to anyone, regardless of age, who is suffering from an acute injury within the past week. Diagnosis and treatment options will be provided to patients at the same price as an office visit. Injury clinic visits may be covered by insurance or patients may self-pay.

“This is the second year for the sports injury clinic,” said Franley. “While we expect to see sports-related injuries from football or other high school sports, the clinic is certainly open to adults who are injured. It is easy to get caught up in fall yardwork and realize later that you’ve overdone it and strained or pulled something.”

ACMC Athletic Trainers at area high schools will remind students that if they feel sore or are unable to move their limbs through a full range of motion Saturday morning after a game then they need to consider seeing Franley at the walk-in injury clinic.

“It is easy to overlook soreness or stiffness after a high school football game,” Franley said. “The adrenaline, the excitement or disappointment in the score, and an internal desire to fight through an injury can keep us all from talking to someone else about a potential injury. However, it is important to see a physician so the injury does not get worse. This is especially true for high school athletes.”

No appointment is necessary to see Dr. Franley at the walk-in injury clinic any time between 8 and 10:30 a.m. The injury clinic is located at The Ashtabula Clinic, 2422 Lake Road.
