Injury clinics continue Saturdays

Ashtabula County Medical Center Sports Medicine physicians are now seeing patients Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m. to diagnose sports injuries. The new Injury Clinic is part of ACMC’s expansion of its orthopaedic/Sports Medicine program featuring three sports medicine specialists who see patients in Ashtabula and Jefferson.

Lauren Gloekler, ACMC Sports Medicine Department Director, said the clinics are open to anyone with a sports injury – student or adult. The clinics begin this week at The Ashtabula Clinic.

“Anyone can come to ACMC to be seen by one of our fellowship-trained, sports medicine physicians. Dr. Nathan Franley and Dr. Amar Mutnal are available to see patients on a walk-in basis. No appointment is necessary,” she said.

Gloekler said a person should come to the Injury Clinic if they experience any of the following symptoms after sustaining an injury:

  • Joint swelling
  • Inability to put weight on injured area
  • Loss of range of motion due to injury
  • Continual pain

ACMC Sports Medicine is also starting Concussion Clinics every Monday at Jefferson Family Health Center.

Dr. Franley will see patients by appointment to diagnose and discuss treatment options for concussive symptoms. The clinic is open to students or adults. The best way to diagnose a concussion is to compare test results to a pre-injury baseline assessment. Students at Conneaut, Edgewood, Lakeside, and Saint John had these assessments done prior to the start of the fall sports season. Any athlete who wishes to have a baseline cognitive test should make an appointment at Jefferson Family Health Center.

ACMC Sports Medicine staff includes Cleveland Clinic Orthopaedic Surgeon Mark Verdun, DO, who serves as the Program Director. Dr. Franley serves as Medical Director. Dr. Mutnal serves as Surgical Director.
