Ashtabula Firefighters IAFF Local 165 donates to ACMC Foundation
ACMC Foundation Donation

The ACMC Foundation recently accepted a $1,000 check from Ashtabula Firefighters IAFF Local 165 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The money will help provide mammograms at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Ashtabula Firefighters President Jeff Workman said, each year, the union raises money through various fundraising activities. This year Ashtabula Firefighters decided to make a larger donation to support Breast Cancer Awareness. The union makes many donations throughout the year to local charities.

“We keep our donations local and this year we wanted to support breast cancer since it is so prevalent within our community,” Workman said.

ACMC Healthcare System President and CEO Michael Habowski accepted the donation along with ACMC Foundation Executive Director Tami Netkowicz.

“ACMC was founded thanks to the support of the community through donations like this one from the Ashtabula Firefighters IAFF Local 165,” Habowski said. “We appreciate all they do to keep our community safe. For them to provide additional benefits to the community by supporting breast cancer programs at ACMC speaks volumes to their dedication to the health and well-being of our residents.”

To ensure the earliest detection of cancerous cells, physicians recommend most women have a mammogram every year starting at age 40. It is also important to remember that mammography tests should be accompanied by regular clinical breast exams by a health professional. Schedule a clinical breast exam every three years if you're in your 20s and 30s. Starting in your 40s, you should have one every year.

Over the years, donations from the community have supported ACMC through facility renovations, program and service expansions, and equipment purchases.
